Blount County Sheriff's Office honor Blount County's Nine Fallen Officers in Recognition of National Police Week

Law enforcement officers, citizens, and other first responders gathered at Alcoa Police Department today to honor Blount County's nine fallen officers in recognition of National Police Week. 

The nine fallen officers were remembered by his agency's department head, and honor guard members placed a white rose on a remembrance wreath or placed in the hands of a family member in attendance at the ceremony. 

Alcoa Police Chief David Carswell remembered Alcoa's fallen:

Sgt. Timothy Hunt, EOW April 20, 2000

Lt. Glen Giles, EOW July 3, 1987

Officer Fred Guffey, EOW August 31, 1952

Officer William J. Hunt, EOW July 7, 1937

Blount County Sheriff James Lee Berrong honored our fallen, Deputy William D. "Bill Nuchols" EOW October 7, 1956.

Maryville Police Chief Tony Jay Crisp honored Maryville's fallen officers:

Officer Kenneth Ray Moats, EOW August 25, 2016

Officer John Michael Callahan, II, EOW February 21, 1981

Officer Barton Coker, EOW January 2, 1938

Officer Marsh J. Henry Clemens, EOW August 25, 1911

Doves were released at the end of the service in recognition of Blount County's fallen officers. 

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy set aside May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day, and the week in which the day falls as National Police Week. 

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God."  Matthew 5:9.
