lount County’s law enforcement officers are spending part of this year’s in-service training packing boxes and filling bags at Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee. For the past several weeks, deputies and officers with Blount County Sheriff’s Office, Maryville Police Department, Alcoa Police Department, and Townsend Police Department have spent one afternoon a week at the food bank volunteering as part of our “community immersion” hours.
This week alone, our county’s law enforcement officers packaged close to 7,700 meals that Second Harvest will distribute to families in need throughout East Tennessee.
Of course, it usually becomes a friendly competition to see who can pack the most boxes! We’ve enjoyed volunteering to help families in Blount and our neighboring counties.
