In a special ceremony held today, the Sheriff's Office awarded three special commendations to two Blount County deputies and one Townsend Police officer for their valiant efforts in helping to save the life of a Townsend man.
On July 9, BCSO Deputies Ryan Olive and Devan Teaster, along with Townsend Police Officer Jason Russell responded to a residence on Mountain Loft Road in Townsend in reference to someone yelling for help. A major storm had just blown through the area, uprooting numerous trees and causing property damage. As the three law enforcement officers continued to search the area on foot, they located a home on Country Club Drive with the door open and no one inside. As they checked the exterior of the home, they heard could hear someone pleading for help. They located a slide path down an embankment behind the home, and at the bottom they located an 85-year-old man lying at the bottom of the ravine with a large tree on top of him. He told deputies he'd been lying there for several hours in the elements. The three men provided comfort to the victim and assisted fire and rescue personnel with extracting the victim from under the tree and back to safety. The man was taken by AMR to University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment. Thankfully, the man lived. If not for the efforts of Deputy Olive, Deputy Teaster, and Officer Russell, the man may not have observed his ordeal.
We are proud of all three law enforcement officer! Thank you for representing Blount County with bravery!
