Maryville College Samuels, Hampton Named Players of the Week

Maryville landed two USA South Football Players of the Week for the first time this season with Monday's announcement that Kevon Samuels and Trey Hampton were named. Samuels earned Rookie of the Week honors and Hampton was named Special Teams Player of the Week.

 

Samuels accumulated seven receptions for 189 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's 56-17 victory at LaGrange. The first-year wideout from Jasper, Alabama, caught seven passes, including touchdowns of 65 and 25 yards. Samuels in the game averaged 27 yards per reception.

 

Samuels leads the USA South in receiving touchdowns with six and yards per catch at 21.8. He's second in the conference in receiving yards with 479 on 22 receptions.

 

Hampton was a perfect 8-for-8 on PATs Saturday, marking a career game-high for the Hendersonville senior. He also punted twice for a 36.5-yard average, with both boots landing inside the 20-yard line. Hampton leads the USA South in kick-scoring with 31 points, having converted 22-of-23 PATs and 3-of-4 field goals.

Bryson Rollins on three occasions has been named Rookie of the Week for Maryville's only other weekly honor.

 

Maryville stands 2-1 in the USA South and 2-4 overall. The Scots are back in action Saturday at Southern Virginia in a 1 p.m. kickoff.
