Maryville continued it's winning ways Tuesday night with a 3-0 victory over Berea. The Scots have won seven-straight matches. They have yet to give up a set during this streak, defeating opponents 3-0 in all seven matches.
Back in September, Maryville suffered their first conference loss of the season to Berea in a 3-0 road loss. Tuesday night, the Scots rebounded to defeat the mountaineers by scores of 25-12, 25-20, and 25-17. Maryville was in the driver's seat the whole time, with only eight ties and four lead changes throughout the match.
The first set was all Maryville, as the Scots burst through the gate to take a 7-1 lead. The Scots then went on a 9-3 run, extending their lead even further to 16-4. From there the match was even, with Maryville outscoring Berea just 10-8 to close out the set. Hannah Potts led the way, picking up five kills while attacking at .714.
The Mountaineers battled back in the second set, quickly forging an early 9-4 lead. From there the Scots scored five in a row to tie it up 9-9. Then, an 8-2 rally from Maryville, including a 5-0 run, put them up 17-12. It was 8-8 from there but the damage was done as the Scots took the set 25-20.
Berea took an early lead again in the third set, scoring six in a row to go in front 7-4. Maryville answered right back, scoring five of its own and retaking the lead 9-7. From there it was back and forth, with neither team pulling ahead by more than three points until the Scots went on another run of five straight to pull ahead 21-14. Maryville closed out the match from there on three kills and a service ace from Ami Ingalls.
Potts led the Scots with nine kills, followed by Ingalls (8) and Isabella Samson (7). Maryville recorded 41 kills and attacked at .255 to Berea's 26 kills and .089 attack percentage.
The Scots take the rest of this week to prepare for a Saturday afternoon doubleheader in Macon, Georgia. Maryville faces CCS opponents Wesleyan at noon and Huntingdon at 2 p.m.
