The inaugural Collegiate Conference of the South race in women's basketball looks to be a tight one if the preseason coaches poll is any indication.
Maryville is picked to finish third, but the Scots were bunched tightly behind first-place Berea and second-place Piedmont. LaGrange is also in the mix in fourth place, with Belhaven picking up a first-place vote and predicted for fifth.
"We are excited to compete with so many good teams in our new conference," Maryville head coach Darrin Travillian said. "As the preseason poll reflects, it looks like there will be several teams capable of having great years.
"For us, we are focused on the long view, as we have so many new players and spots to fill. We have a challenging nonconference schedule to get us ready for the battles in January and February."
Maryville plays an exhibition game at Division II Lee on Monday and then opens its season Nov. 12-13 at the Ferrum Classic in Virginia. The Scots match up against Bridgewater on Saturday and then take on host Ferrum on Sunday.
