Care to take a guess at the favorite for 2022 USA South Football Rookie of the Year?
It has to be Maryville's very own Bryson Rollins, who Monday was named USA South Rookie of the Week for the sixth time in 10 games played this season.
Rollins and the Scots pulled off their best performance of the year, defeating once-beaten Belhaven 25-22 Saturday to climb into a virtual second-place tie in the conference standings. Maryville, Belhaven and Brevard all finished with two league losses.
Rollins in Saturday's game finished 27-for-41 passing for 373 yards and accounted for all four touchdowns – three through the air and another one on the ground. He connected on a pair of TD passes to Corey Russell and another one to Kevon Samuels. The second toss to Russell was the game-winner with 4:21 remaining.
The first-year signal-caller from Elizabethton finished the year completing better than 59 percent of his passes for 2,555 yards and 24 touchdowns. Those latter two figures are both second on the Maryville season charts.
Look for the All-USA South football teams to be announced later this week.
