Roane State’s Lady Raiders picked up their second conference win in as many outings with a comeback victory over Columbia St., 54-41, on Saturday. The win improved the Roane women to 4-0 on the season, while dropping the Lady Chargers to 0-6.
Columbia St. jumped out to an early lead, holding the Lady Raiders to only six first quarter points. Roane’s women could only muster ten points in the second frame and trailed by a dozen at halftime, 28-16.
Thankfully, the second half was another story.
Roane St. fought back in the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Chargers, 22-5, giving them a five-point advantage, 38-33, going in to the final stanza.
In the fourth, the Lady Raiders kept the pedal to the metal, only allowing Columbia St. to score eight points in the frame, while the Lady Raiders added 16, making the final score 54-41 in favor or Roane St.
On the night, the Lady Raiders only shot 42.9-percent from the floor and they were a dismal 2-7 from three-point range (28.6-percent).
A bright spot for the Lady Raiders all season has been their free throw shooting. The Lady Raiders came in to the contest having connected on 40 of 48 attempts from the charity stripe (83.3-percent). Against the Lady Chargers, Roane St. maintained their average as they hit on ten of twelve attempts.
Sophomore guard Bralyn McGaha led the team with 14-points, while two-time All-Region post player Kirby Brown chipped in 12.
