Sophomore guard Amauri Young came off the bench to propel the Roane State Raiders men’s basketball team to a spirited 79-73 win over conference foe Dyersburg State. It was the first meeting between the two schools since an overtime win for the Raiders in last year’s TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII Championship Game. That win sent the Raiders to their first-ever NJCAA National Tournament appearance.
On Saturday, the Raiders led the entire first half and took a six-point advantage to the locker room, 38-32.
In the second half, the Eagles were able to snatch the lead from the Raiders, but the team fought back to earn a much-needed conference victory.
Young tallied 19 points in the contest while sophomore Cearius “King” Warren picked up his eighth double-double of the season with 13 points and 14 rebounds.
Sebastian Tidor and Kavon Blankenship tallied 14 and 12 points, respectively, for the Roane men.
The win improved Roane State to 12-6 on the season and 6-3 in conference play. At 6-3, the Raiders are currently tied for fourth in the conference with Walters St. behind 8-1 Chattanooga St. and 7-2 Columbia St. and Dyersburg St.
