Andre Duncombe Jr/Assistant Football Coach | Maryville College
Andre Duncombe Jr., has joined the Maryville staff as an assistant football coach.
Duncombe arrives after playing and coaching at the University of West Florida in the Division II ranks. His coaching duties began as a graduate assistant in 2020 and he went on to coach cornerbacks and special teams.
"We are thrilled to add Andre to our football program," Scots head coach Ben Fox said. "His experiences as a player and coach pushed him to the front of our list. He has been a part of building one of the premier small college programs in the country. It jumped out to me that his coaches wanted to keep him in the program and on the staff immediately after he finished playing. That is a very difficult transition to make, and by all accounts he excelled.
"He obviously was a tremendous player, leader, and captain. I know he has developed as a coach while he was a graduate assistant, and I know he will do a great job pushing our program forward. We are so excited to get to work!"
Record-Setting Linebacker
As a player, Duncombe was one of the most decorated linebackers in program history as part of the first team of redshirts in 2015 and finishing third in program history in total tackles. During his 2016-19 career, Duncombe set the program record with 39½ tackles-for-loss and finished second with 17½ sacks and 15 quarterback hurries. His seven interceptions were the most by a linebacker in program history.
He made the first tackle in UWF football history with an assisted stop against Ave Maria on Sept. 3, 2016.
"It's funny how life works!" Duncombe said. "I went from one of the youngest programs in college football to one of the oldest, but the goal of daily improvement remains the same. The mountain view on the horizon I have now is a beautiful change-up to the ocean views I've had all my life in Florida.
"I consider myself a winner. My contagious energy and leadership have allowed success to follow me everywhere I've been. I plan on keeping that going here at Maryville College."
The Miami native graduated from UWF with a degree in Criminal Justice.
Duncombe played high school ball at Booker T. Washington in Miami, helping lead the team to its third straight state championship in 2014. He was named to the All-Miami-Dade and Keys Second Team by FloridaHSFootball.com that season.
