Maryville's Florida contingent helped the Scots sweep both the team and individual trophies in the Sunshine State at the Shenandoah Spring Break Invite.

The Scots won the team title by a whopping 28 strokes and Tristen Evans capped a fantastic tournament with a one-stroke victory over Maryville teammates Jacob Dunlap and Colin McCabe. All three hail from the state of Florida.

The tournament took place at Eagle Dunes Golf Club north of Orlando. Dunlap and McCabe are from Tampa, while Evans is from Venice, about an hour south.

Evans backed up his opening-round 69 with an even-par 72 to finish one shot ahead of his hard-charging teammates. Dunlap fired the low round of the tournament Friday with a 67 and McCabe was right with him after his 68 left both players at 2-under-par 142 for the tournament. Evans finished at 3-under 141 and was justly rewarded for his fine play of late.

"I've been working hard on all aspects of my game, and it has all started to click recently," Evans said. "The mental side of my game also has taken a big jump in the last few months.

"Every time I play, my goal is just to do my part for the team. That is always what's most important. It was nice to see everyone contribute this week."

McCabe joined the squad at the start of the semester and has been a big addition. He and the Scots had a busy Spring Break week, playing first as the only Division III team in the field in Sevierville and then flying to Florida for this tournament.

'Scots Are Hot'
"The first tournament was rough," McCabe said. "Expectations were high, and we did not hit the bar. We knew we had to come to Florida and pay the way we knew we could. We felt good coming south and knew something felt right about these couple of days.

"The Florida Boys felt back at home and the Scots are hot!"

Maryville set program records for team 18-hole score of 279 on Friday and 36-hole team total of 572. The previous marks were 281 and 573 at the Rhodes Spring Classic back in 2019. The Scots also shattered the previous team record for one round by playing 9 under par as a team, breaking the old mark of 7 under during that 2019 Rhodes tournament.

"We needed a round and tournament like we had this week," Maryville head coach Anthony Monaco said. "Everyone played awesome. So proud of our team.

"It's been a long time coming to see this type of performance. Now we just need to work on consistency the rest of the year before the conference tourney in April."

Josh Lunsford shot 72 on Friday to close out the Maryville scoring. He and Colbe Cagle tied for ninth place at 9-over 153. Colton Novotny counted toward the team scoring Thursday and closed with 73 to finish alone in fifth place at 4-over 148. Andrew Thimjon played as an individual and tied for 15th place at 17-over 161.

The Scots are back in action March 27-28 at the Tennessee River Rumble, set for familiar turf at Wind River Golf Club. Lincoln Memorial is the host school for that event.
