Lynn Swann, NFL player and broadcaster, born March 7, 1952

Lynn Swann was born on March 7, 1952, in Alcoa, Tennessee. His family moved to California when he was two. Swann became known for his success in football, track, and academics. He attended Junípero Serra High School, where he competed in multiple sports. At the University of Southern California, he played football as a wide receiver and was a consensus All-American. He graduated with a degree in public relations. In 1974, the Pittsburgh Steelers selected him in the first round of the NFL Draft. Swann played nine seasons with the Steelers. He won four Super Bowl titles and was named MVP of Super Bowl X. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2001. After football, he worked as a broadcaster and served as chairman of the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. Swann maintained public roles in politics and education. His roots trace back to Alcoa.
